Password problem with old ipad (Chowchilla)

I have an old iPad I got from a friend a few years ago.
I did most of my writing on my phone because the idpad takes FOREVER to charge but i still have a ton on the ipad.
Suddenly after 3+ years it is asking for apple ID passwords and icloud stuff that my friend doesn't remember and I really need the stuff in my notepad, that's it.
My screen unlock password is still working but now it wants to be activated and won't let me see a home screen without doing so.
It was uncharged for a long time while I moved, but I don't think that's the problem because it's never done this after the many times it's been uncharged.
I was wondering if i can I get back into the notepad app without everything being wiped? If so I will pay.
I really need it, everything I wrote back then is in it.
