Hiring Range The University of California, Merced is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role.
This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position.
Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
The full salary range for this position is $92,300.
- $175,700.
The budgeted salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $105,000.
- $120,000.
Job Closing Date Remote/Hybrid eligibility: This position is eligible for a hybrid schedule; a remote schedule may be possible for an extremely well-qualified candidate with California residency.

About the Job The Senior Project Manager is responsible for project life cycle management of technology-centric projects for the IT division and the UC Merced campus.
This position will act as a significant change agent, working with divisional and unit leadership to complete successful facilitation of campus and internal projects that deliver effective, accessible, and user-centric technologies, systems, platforms, and integrations for the UC Merced campus.
Under the leadership of the PMO Manager, the Senior Project Manager will establish processes for project assessment, management, reporting, and delivery; advise on ways to improve outcomes for existing projects.
and partner with OIT senior leadership Key Responsibilities: Plans, manages, and leads large projects, including development of detailed documentation, project plans, schedules, budgets, resource plans, change management plans, communication plans, and status reports to ensure project success.
Identifies scope and deliverables of assigned projects, involving all relevant stakeholders and ensuring project feasibility, final product usability, and appropriate resource management.
Leads project team meetings to assess status, resolve issues and provide guidance to unit and divisional leadership on project management processes.
Provides work assignments to project teams and ensures deliverables, deadlines, and objectives are met.
Manages the project's framework processes and methodologies involving departmental or cross-functional teams.
Monitors the project from initiation through completion.
Organizes and leads activities relating to the management and completion of projects.
Manages the evaluation of risk and opportunity impacts to existing or proposed projects and implements risk mitigation actions.
Satisfies information systems and technology requirements by researching and recommending hardware, software, network, and communications solutions.
Prepares technical support information and reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data and trends.
Coaches, mentors, develops, and trains staff in analyzing business processes, IT processes, and system functionality to determine gaps and process inefficiencies, identify and facilitate solutions to close gaps, solve problems, and improve processes.
Assists unit leadership with continuous improvement efforts.
Works collaboratively with staff and colleagues to create and develop standards, policies and practices.
*LI-RM1 Qualifications Bachelor's degree in related area (required); and 5 years of experience in leading/managing technology projects (required); or 9 years of related experience/education in leading/managing technology projects (required).
Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification (preferred).
Lean Six Sigma Certification (preferred).
Critical Knowledge, Experience, and Competencies: Demonstrated highly advanced organization and project management skills, including strong conceptual and planning skills to analyze projects of broad and diverse scope, effective effort and project progress tracking, and demonstrated understanding of project costs, project tracking tools, and metrics.
Knowledge of project management principles, theories, and concepts.
Ability to assess campus needs for information technology products and design services to meet those needs.
Broad knowledge of technology-related initiatives and an understanding of the impact to the organization of such initiatives.
Demonstrated problem solving skills, including proven capacity to anticipate obstacles and plan for contingencies.
Demonstrated attention to detail.
Demonstrated ability to determine relevance and prioritize tasks.
Demonstrated effective writing skills and ability to create persuasive arguments.
Demonstrated competency in selecting and implementing project management methods and techniques.
Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with all levels of an organization.
Proven leadership ability including experience leading a team of technology professionals.
Advanced knowledge of all aspects of computing and communications including hardware infrastructure, networking, software, operations and disaster recovery.
Demonstrated ability to integrate critical information across disciplines.
Understands how projects relate to other business strategies and initiatives.
Significant experience in ERP level system implementations.
Experience in a higher education setting (preferred) Background Check Background check and fingerprinting may be required.
